Wizard of Oz Slots

Wizard of Oz Slots

A large portion of my time at Zynga was spent designing for Wizard of Oz Slots. My responsibilities expanded as I was promoted to Principal Experience Designer and took on a lead role for the features team. I gained a great deal of experience within the Slots genre and felt that it pushed me in many ways but mostly in my need to strengthen my UX skills and to empathize with our players even more.

SLOTS Lobbies revamp

Some major problems that Wizard of Oz Slots was facing was an ever aging look and the inability to scale the games’ lobby to incorporate more features, player facing indicators and in-game ad support. I took on the task of designing new layouts for our games’ lobbies that addressed all of these issues as well as creating a whole new layout for a newly proposed Casino lobby for the game. It was ultimately decided that a complete revamp of all Slots lobbies would be too disruptive to our players if done all at once, but many new additions that I had designed were implemented into the game and helped solve all the problems that the game was facing. The Casino lobby designs were also used to lead the development of a new spin-off lobby of slot machines.

Lucky Cards

I was the Lead UI/UX Designer on one of the most successful features for Wizard of Oz Slots; Lucky Cards. My role consisted of UX documentation, wire-frames, story-boarding, prototype creation and user testing, as well as UI design for a large portion the feature from the Logo down to Card packs and Cards. I was also responsible for art direction for the entire feature team that worked on Lucky Cards and implementation and collaboration with Engineering and Marketing to help bring the feature to its’ full potential.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

I was the lead on several features during my time on Wizard of Oz Slots and Break the Bank (aka Follow The Yellow Brick Road) was extremely successful at driving player engagement and retention. This feature was also one of the first social features introduced that allowed players to play slots as a team and send each other gifts and likes. I was responsible for the UX documentation, wire-framing, prototyping, user testing and UI design as well as overall Art Direction for the features team.

Epic Jackpots

Jackpot Logo and UI for Multi-Jackpot addition to the High Roller World. The challenge was to find a way to place five jackpot levels on every Slot machine in the high roller world. I created the updated Jackpot logo as well as all the UI elements in the lobby and in machine.
